The federation of irrigation communities of Andalusia, Feragua, presented yesterday in Palma del Río a European pilot project called Redawn that seeks to improve energy efficiency in water distribution networks with microturbines. The pilot experience is being carried out in the Irrigation Community of the Genil Left Bank, specifically in the Calonge farm in Palma del Río, where the Almaco del Guadalquivir firm is developing a drying and packaging project for walnuts, an initiative of 18 million euros for the cultivation of 285 hectares of walnut trees, according to Alfonso Córdoba, creator of this project in 2018. With this experience, which consists of the installation of a microturbine with solar panels in an irrigation network, the Calonge plant will avoid emission of more than 9.5 tons of CO2. The president of the CHG, Joaquín Páez Landa, highlights the sustainability of the initiative of irrigators. This community has 680 comuneros and more than 6,000 hectares.
