¿Tenéis varios tipos de cultivos o solo nogales?
Principalmente nuestro mayor producto es la nuez, y disponemos de dos tipos de árboles frutales como es el nogal y el pecano, los dos pertenecen a la misma familia pero nuestra mayor superficie es el Nogal.
A la hora de elegir la variedad adecuada para realizar la plantación, ¿Qué aspectos habéis considerado?
Es importante considerar aspectos como las limitaciones del medio, características de las especies, factores productivos de la variedad (precocidad, capacidad productiva, polinizadores, etc.) y sobre todo la demanda real del mercado.
¿Utilizáis algún tipo de tecnología en las actividades técnicas del cultivo?
Si, por ejemplo, el Diviner es un sistema de medición de humedad en el suelo, robusto y portátil que registra la humedad a distintas profundidades de la zona radical del cultivo. Consiste de una sonda y de una unidad de visualización que nos permite medir el grado de humedad en el suelo. También disponemos de una Cámara de Presión Estomática, la cual produce presión en la cámara requerida para tomar lecturas de potencial de agua por bombeo, nos permite alcanzar aproximadamente una media Bar de presión por carrera. Con esta tecnología tenemos una mayor optimización del agua y dependiendo de los resultados obtenidos podemos tomar decisiones respecto al riego, de manera inmediata.
¿Cuáles son algunos de los obstáculos a los que te enfrentas?
Obstáculos en la agricultura hay muchos sobre todo la climatología pero primordialmente diría que son las plagas, debido al daño que pueden ocasionar en el cultivo.
¿Qué es lo que te motiva a dedicarte a la agricultura, y dentro de ella a la agricultura sostenible? ¿Cuál es tu filosofía al respecto?
Bueno, de primeras es una forma de vida para mí. Optamos por la agricultura sostenible, no por moda, sino por conciencia, una conciencia basada en la defensa de la madre tierra, en su buen uso, en producir comida rica y sana. La agricultura sostenible no tiene que ser una etiqueta de venta o un mero trabajo, sino una forma de vida, buscando caminos hacia la autosuficiencia y la soberanía alimentaria.
¿Crees que es importante escuchar las buenas iniciativas de los empleados?
Si, para que el producto sea de calidad se necesita dedicación, esfuerzo y trabajo, una verdadera estrategia de sostenibilidad requiere la implicación de todos, por ello el involucrar a los empleados nos lleva a alcanzar el éxito. Es básico obtener el apoyo de empleados y compañeros, por lo que es imprescindible ser capaz de potenciar el trabajo en equipo y elegir a las mejores personas para el proyecto.

¿Qué podéis aprender en España de la industria del nogal de California?
Básicamente sobre máquinas. Los californianos son super prácticos en manejo de cosecha y poscosecha. Todo el trabajo de las líneas de producción, las distintas maquinas cosechadoras e incluso de poda. Todos los años para la cosecha de California realizamos una visita a las distintas empresas que comercializan máquinas nuevas.

Mainly our biggest product is the walnut, and have two types of fruit trees such as walnut and pecan, both belong to the same family but our main area is the walnut tree.
